The Carriage Museum’s representative selection of luxury carriages of all kinds, sleighs, post coaches, commercial vehicles, equipages, liveries and numerous other objects from the age of horse-drawn locomotion provide visit testimony to traffic and mobility in 19th- and 20th-century Basel before the advent of the automobile. The vehicles on display attest to the excellent craftsmanship of Basel’s own coach-builders and show just how closely they followed the latest trends in coach design launched on the streets of cosmopolitan Paris.
