The exhibition installed in the rood screen chapels shows seven major events in the history of Basel. These include the Iconoclasm of 1529, which with the figure of St. Lawrence as its centrepiece is the theme of the exhibit in the choir. The seven themes mark all the major milestones in Basel’s history from the Middle Ages to the present. There are artefacts recalling the building of the first bridge across the Rhine in the 13th century, the great earthquake of 1356, the founding of the university, the Reformation in Basel, key political developments at both regional and European level and the industrialization of the city in the 19th and 20th century.
